About our leadwork service.
Quality leadwork is one of the true tests of a skilled roofer. Lead is the best material available for weatherproofing the junctions between roofs, walls, chimneys and dormers and, when correctly installed, it will last well beyond 100 years.
Our leadwork is dressed on-site by hand using proper wooden bossing tools, and we follow the Lead Sheet Training Academy guidelines for sizing, fixing and lapping. Every job uses code 4, 5 or 6 rolled lead from UK mills — never cheap imported substitutes.
Typical projects include new chimney flashings, apron and step flashings to side abutments, lead-lined valleys, lead-covered dormer cheeks and tops, and full lead bay-window roofs on period properties. We also restore original Victorian and Edwardian leadwork on listed buildings.
All new leadwork is finished with patination oil to prevent unsightly white carbonate staining of the tiles below while the natural patina develops.
